She has been featured in this blog showing her wonderful home in the Eixample in Barcelona. Next to being a gifted landscape architect, she also makes beautiful drawings.
She works as a illustrator and has made this animal abecedary, for now in Catalan. Which is nice for me because we educate our children in two languages, Dutch and Catalan. But even if you do not speak the language the alphabet invites to make words.
So, if you like her illustrations you can say HOLA to her here.
With friends we had a
coffee at the new 'de kleine kapitein' ( the small captain) children's bookshop
in Rotterdam. It moved to the Botersloot a very nice neighbourhood near the
market with cute small shops. The shop has a great interior space and super decoration. Parents can
drink a coffee and children's have a play corner.
Of course they also sell
books and toys. Which is tempting. So we had a look around and found some great
children's books. My favourite, 'He watch out, I am not you grandmother! by
Bette Westera, a Dutch book with beautiful illustrations from Sylvia Weve. It is about older people
in a care home. Of course they were not always old and this is told in a funny
way.( shown under in the righthand corner)

I like brooches so much that I have been thinking about making my own collection. In the last months I have been busy making my accessory collection for my Etsy shop CASASderooij. Finally I have been able to set up shop!
My brooches are of wood and hand embroidered. I like to them to have simple forms with some pop of colour. From Dutch canalhouses to flowers. My dear friend photographer Inger Hollebeek was kind enough to make beautiful pictures of the brooches. All items are now available in the Etsy shop.
The walls
in our house are predominantly white. White because I am afraid to hang
something from them. But this weekend something changed. We hung limited
edition artwork in our bedroom that I acquired in the V&A museum shop. Our
hallway is now gracing a vintage advertisement hanging of Cordoniu Cava from
the old shop of our Catalan uncle. But our living room is still missing
something…
Recently I came across
these stunning fashion photos by Dutch runway photographer Peter Stigter. He
has set up a website Peter Stigter aan de muur where he sells some of his photos of which the proceeds go to
help people that are blind or visually impaired.I think I found my match for the living room. Now the difficulty will be
which one to choose more abstract or baroque …
My friends in London
have a classic house with a modern extension done by architect Dalriva. Their
interior is amazing. Its modern white and greys but with pops of orange and a
very seventies vintage feel to it. I love the big rubber foot sculpture they
have in their kitchen. In their company Harrow and Green they sell tea towels
that fit right in with their style, like this milk and sugar tea towel hanging
at the stove. I wish I had a house like this, I am glad they let me stay with
them sometimes.
This graphic poster of motorway nodes caught my eye. They are a M1 50 year celebration publication by Melissa Price. It is a dedicatory to the M1 roads in United Kingdom. Very soon I will take a trip to London, I found out that she also sells them as posters at the V and A museum. Let’s see if I can resist.
I would not mind being in her shoes. My stylish colleague Daphne has these gorgeous polka dot Chie Mihara shoes. Well let me putthese oxford shoes with neon sole by Jil Sander and these neon Geisha shoes by United Nude also on my wish list. Out of my budget unfortunately or by miracle the crisis in architecture has to start dissolving very soon.
My dear friend Raquel Vela, landscape architect, illustrator and mother, lives in one of the Eixample houses in Barcelona. A typical apartment in the grid of Cerdá. It stretches from the front facade to the back and has these long views in the house, beautiful tiled floors and its Catalan structural bowed ceiling. She has such a comfortable place with great casual style. I love her workplace with all the posters she collected and the wooden furniture which shows some of her art work, of which I will show more when she has her own website up and running. This is definitely one of my dream houses.
To much colour? NO, after the very cold and snowy weather the past weeks I am ready for spring. These window displays by Belgian brand Essentiel make me long for warm weather and sun.
Ever since I laid my eyes on the classic stem print of Orla Kiely I am in LOVE. Her prints and choice of colour are so beautiful and with such simplicity. With autumn almost arriving I like these pieces from her autumn collection, the midnight coat, the stem punched Ivy bag with its matching wallet of course.
128 grid cities together in one book. This is a very nice notebook byJohn Briscella.
I have many notebooks, sometimes just because they look great. In a way a pity to write in them, but this notebook can be an inspiration for urban plans. Or an excuse to visit all the cities, just to make your own guide.
Celinda Versluis is a wonderful Dutch artist and a lovely friend. She transforms vintage porcelain
into something personal and new with her ‘belles dames’. I especially love her ‘les maison des belles dames’. I am hoping she wants to transform these vintage rose plates I have at home. They could use an update as great as this and would look astonishing at home.
